Thinking about applying to the Geology MSc program at Cal Poly? Here are some notes and links to help out!

Before you apply:


First of all, applications are accepted to start in Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. You are NOT limited to starting only in the Fall.

Link to Cal Poly Admissions Guidelines Here you'll find details of what to do before and after you've applied, including deadlines for the application and supporting documentation. For example, Fall 2016 applications are due by June 1, 2016, and supporting documents are due by July 1, 2016.

After you apply:


When submitting supporting documentation (reference letters, official transcript, statement of purpose), please send it directly to Dr. Jonathan Nourse (contact information here). He will take these documents to the Admissions Office in order to document their arrival and expedite the process.

Former students returning to the university after an absence of more than two consecutive quarters in a calendar year must file a complete application and pay the application fee. Former students absent for 5 or more years should request official transcripts form all institutions be sent in.

Students who took 400 and 500 level courses before receiving their BS or who transfer from a different graduate program, may use up to 13 quarter units toward his or her MSc. It is important to note that these units must not have been used toward your BS and petitions are required.

Getting Graduate Credit While An Undergraduate


Undergraduates taking 400 - 500 level courses, for which the units are not needed for their undergraduate degree, can request Graduate Credit by filling out a Request by Undergraduate for Graduate Credit Form. This form must be submitted before the end of the quarter.
